foucault-1

I am struggling with this weeks’ reading. I am not sure I am getting the concept that Foucault discussed in his first six chapters. In the chapter 3 and 4, he discussed the notion of rules of formation. First he starts to discuss the formation of objects and talked about what are the rules of objects of discourse. Defining the objects of discourse are: 1) mapping the first surfaces of their emergence, 2) describing the authorities of delimitation 3) analyzing the grids of specification (p.41-42). However he asserted that the plane of emergence, authorities of delimitation and forms of specification does not provide objects P.42. Foucault mentioned that the appearance of objects of discourse is to say anything about it and a if a group say different things that related to. These relations are developed among institution economic and social process etc. Thus, the object of discourse is hard to remain a constant; not only did it divide into multiple, changing objects, but its very continuation was found to be less a matter of the object itself than of its external relations. Furthermore, he pointed out that discursive relation depends on primary and secondary relations. . The object of discourse is what is emerged from and related to the speaking subject. Also, the network of relations that object emerges make subject to say just what they say.
